RtI: New Trends for School-Based Education
The U.S. Department of Education is promoting a school-wide prevention approach within general education. This problem-solving model, originally developed for students with learning disorders, has now been expanded to target all students at risk for failure. The response to intervention (RtI) process provides high-quality intervention, progress monitoring, and data collection to match student educational and behavioral needs. AOTA has a new FAQ on RtI to keep school-based practitioners on top of the trend.

CMS Released Proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule
Under the proposed fee schedule, Medicare physician payments would decline by 9.9% in 2008. AOTA is seeking member comments to include in its official comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Comments are due August 31.

Evidence Byte: Mental and Substance Use Disorders
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration now offers an online, searchable registry of interventions for the prevention and treatment of mental and substance use disorders. Called the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices, or NREPP, the content is summarized and rated by independent experts in the field.

PQRI Program Launches, Toolkit Available
This program provides a 1.5% lump-sum incentive payment to occupational therapists who report on the “Screening for Future Fall Risk” measure.
