NIH Grants Fund Career Development for OT, PT
Researchers
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently approved
proposals for career development programs to train occupational
therapists and physical therapists to become independent
rehabilitation researchers. This is the first time NIH has
funded career development awards for occupational therapy and
physical therapy faculty.

AOTA to Meet With Medical Directors Regarding Power
Mobility Evaluations
On October 23, AOTA will discuss with medical directors
across the country a provision of deep concern to occupational
and physical therapists that is included in the Medicare
durable medical equipment contractor's local coverage
determination (LCD) policy for power mobility devices. The same
LCD has been adopted by each of the medical directors, in
effect making it a national policy.

Evidence Byte: Home Modifications
Interventions
The Home Modification Information Clearinghouse Project is
an online resource library with evidence-based reviews of
modification interventions such as selecting diameters for grab
rails. Managed by the Health Sciences and Architecture faculty
at the University of Sydney, the site was designed to meet the
needs of occupational therapy practitioners, designers,
building contractors, and consumers.
