AOTPAC Representatives Ask for Therapy Cap Changes
Karen Jacobs, AOTPAC board member, and AOTA Practice Associate Deborah Slater met recently with Representative Nancy Johnson (R-CT) to discuss the need to eliminate the Medicare cap on outpatient therapy and extend the current exceptions process. The cap will take effect January 1, 2007, unless Congress acts.

AOTA Advocates Recognition of OTs Performing Power Mobility Device Evaluations
AOTA met with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services October 4, 2006, to ask the agency to reconsider the necessity of the new certification requirement for occupational therapists who perform power mobility device evaluations.

Evidence Byte: Disability in America
Funded by the CDC, NIDRR, and NIH, the Institute of Medicine study to update the 1991 report Disability in America and the 1997 Enabling America project has published "Workshop on Disability in America: A New Look—Summary and Background Papers." Topics include disability across the age spectrum and in the context of normal aging; and trends in the amount, types, and causes of disability.

AOTA's New Telephone System Is Coming!
As part of our ongoing effort to improve member services, we will be installing a new telephone system in our Bethesda, Maryland offices. During the transition, our telephone system will be out of service beginning 4 p.m. EST on Friday, November 10 until Monday, November 13.
