Congress Acts on Therapy Cap, Mental Health, Autism
Read the latest Federal Legislative Issues Update for a summary of the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 (H.R. 6111), which includes provisions addressing the therapy caps and Medicare payments. Get an update on other legislation passed during the December lame-duck session, including NIH reauthorization, mental health partial parity extenders, and autism funding.

Evidence Bytes: OT Improves Independence After Stroke
The Cochrane Collaboration has published an evidence-based review and meta-analysis "Occupational Therapy for Patients With Problems in Activities of Daily Living After Stroke." After reviewing 10 studies (N = 1,348), authors found that individuals who received occupational therapy were more independent in their ADLs and more likely to maintain these abilities. CMS Announces National DMEPOS Accreditation Organizations
Occupational therapists who supply orthotics will have many options among the 11 accreditation organizations announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In fact, AOTA has been working closely with several organizations to ensure that licensed therapists receive special consideration as professionals during the accreditation process.
